REVISED Design Brief, Specifications and Limits

Design Brief:

As the designer I must plan, develop fully, and construct an arm which can function underwater at varibale pressures. The claw must be able to accomplish the tasks diagramed by the MATE competition. The claw must be able to open and close a door, lift a hatch, rotate and vertical and horizontal hatch, and lift ELSS Pods.

Specifications:

Th arm must be able to rotate an object at least 180 degrees both clockwise and counterclockwise
The arm must be able to exert 1/2 PSI to pick up 1 N of weight
The torque provided by the rotational motion must exert at 2 N of force

Limits:

The arm must not exceed 12 V, 2.6 Amps
The arm must not exceed 2 lbs.
The must not exceed -.2 buoyancy
TThe arm must be constructed by march 2009
The materials are limited to bid process.
